History of Triathlon in Special Olympics Florida
- Started in mid- 2018
- Wynne and Hector were catalysts and experts that helped to get the sport off the ground
- # of athletes and Unified Partners have grown
- Great relationships with local race directors to allow Special Olympics Divisions in their races
Triathlon Distance:
Swim 750 meters, Bike 9.1 mile, Run 5k (3.1 miles)
How To Get Involved
SO Athlete Requirements:
- Must have a current athlete medical on file with SOFL
- Must have approval of County Director to train/compete in sport
- Must have a local coach AND unified partner
SO Unified Partner Requirements:
- Must have a current Unified Partner form on file with SOFL
- Must complete protective behaviors training
- Must have previous triathlon experience
Start a Triathlon Program Locally
Basic Requirements:
- Partner with a local sanctioned tri club/group (i.e. Central FL Tri Club)
- Unified partners
- Knowledgeable certified coaches
- Facilities
- Every athlete MUST have a Unified Partner
- Safety
- Effective training
- Inclusion
Coach must be USA Triathlon certified
