East Coast Ride – New Smyrna

Ride the beautiful Beravrd/Volusia section of the Florida Coast to Coast Trail! There are very few road crossings and long stretches of flat fast trail! The section we are riding goes from Mims to Sanford with a Spur out to New Smyrna!

St. George Training Camp

Club After Hours Social – June 4, 2021

Clermont Sprint Triathlon – June 5, 2021

Get ready to race!

On June 5, 2021, Sommer Sports will be hosting their first Summer Series Triathlon. The Special Olympic Team will be racing as well. We will have the tent out there, some coolers with refreshments for after the race. We can hang out and spend some time at the lake afterwards. It is the first week right after racing, so let’s have fun. We will host an open water swim clinic and then have bagels, drinks and a good time. Warm up:

Week of March 29 – April 4, 2021

Hello Team,

I hope you all had an amazing weekend! This weekend it is going to be a bit different, so please pay close attention to the schedule.

Bike Riding Rules

Moving forward we will have three groups on our weekend group rides.

  • Group A:
    • Speed: 22 + mph
    • Must know course!
    • Must know how to ride in peloton.
  • Group B:
    • Speed: 18 – 20 mph
    • Led by Carlos and Jen.
    • Must be comfortable riding in group.
  • Group C:
    • Speed: 16 – 18 mph
    • Coached session!

Keep in mind:

  • Teamwork: give a helping hand, watch for problems and help each other.
  • Be predictable: ride in a straight line, constant speed, unless indicated differently by the coach.
  • Communicate: use verbal and hand signals to communicate with other team members and with other traffic.
  • Hand signals: use the hand signals for turning and stopping.
  • Verbal warning: along with hand signals, verbally warn warn cyclist being you for anything that the person in front calls out.
  • Change positions correctly: if you are passing, you pass on the left. If you want to drop behind, signal the rider and allow them to pass you on the left.
  • Wait at turns and stops signs! No rolling through!
  • WATCH OUT FOR TRAFFIC! Ride for the person behind you, in front of you and yourself! SAFETY!

Swim – Workout

Easy recovery swim today as we are going to be testing later this week.

Warm up:

  • Warm Up
    • 600 easy.
    • 2 X 300 pull buoy – easy with 10 sec recovery
    • 200 kick no board easy.
  • Main Set
    • 5×100 alternate breath, long stroke, on 30 sec rest.
    • 6 x 50 as 25 dril / 25 free with 15 sec recovery
      • Alternate between the fist drill and catch up
  • Warm down
    • 200 easy.

Monday – Swim

This week we’re going to focus a lot on perceived exertion. Therefore when I ask for the efforts, please follow below:

Rate of Perceived Exertion
Easy: Easy means easy.
Moderate: Moderate effort means from a scale 1 to 10, I want you at five or six.
Hard Effort: When I’m asking for hard/tempo effort I want you to scale from 1 to 10 I want you at seven or eight.
Fast / Sprint: Go FAST but be smart and listen to your body!

Warm up:

300 free nice long strokes 

8 x 75 pull with 15 sec RI

300 kick with board 

Main Set:

5 x 100 easy with 15 sec RI

200 kick 

3 x 75 Fast with 30 sec RI

100 kick

1 x 75 Easy with 20 sec RI

200 kick 

2 x 75 Fast with 30 sec RI

Special Olympics Triathlon Kick OFF MEETING

The 2021 Special Olympic Triathlon Kickoff informational meeting will be on Sunday, January 24 at 3pm.  Please arrive early to allow time for parking and walking to venue.

This meeting is for all Special Olympic Triathletes and Unified Partners as well as anyone interested in becoming a Special Olympic Triathlete or Unified Partner.  It is also for anyone interested in considering volunteering in any capacity during the 2021 Special Olympic triathlon season or the USA Games in 2022.

Location: Cypress Grove Park, 290 Holden Ave., Orlando, FL 32838.  At reserved “Group Area” (NOT the white covered pavilion)

Drive straight to back of the park, parking lot on right, “Group Area” on your left.  “Group Area” is made up of 8 large picnic tables on cement slab in middle of large open field across from the parking lot at back of the park.  Please bring your own lawn chairs and masks for extra seating and social distancing.

If too far to travel, or you can’t make it on Jan. 24, there will be a Zoom Kickoff meeting option on Monday, January 25 at 6pm

Please RSVP to advise if you will attend the in-person meeting on Jan. 24 at 3pm, or the Zoom meeting on Jan. 25 at 6pm.  We will email Zoom link info before the meeting on the 25th. Please email Wynne McFarlin at: wmcfarlin@cfl.rr.com
